Care Guide
Planting
Plant your Pacific Coast Hybrid Iris in full sun to part shade with fast to medium draining soil - it tolerates a wide variety of soil types, so don't overthink the amendment. Space them about 12–18 inches apart to allow air circulation. Plant in fall or early spring before bloom time (March–May) so they're established before flowering.
After Planting
Water weekly during the first summer to keep the soil moist while roots establish, then taper off as the plant matures - Pacific Coast Hybrids are drought-tolerant once established. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms, and let the foliage die back naturally in late summer rather than cutting it down early, since the plant needs it for energy storage. The #1 mistake is overwatering after year one; these are tough plants that actually prefer drier conditions, so resist the urge to coddle them.
