Care Guide
Planting
Plant California Seathrift in full sun in fast-draining soil - sandy or clay soil works well, and it even tolerates saline soil. Drainage is critical; if you have heavy clay, amend with sand or plant in a rock garden or container where water moves through quickly. Plant in fall or spring to give it time to establish before summer heat.
After Planting
Water moderately through the first growing season, then taper to no more than twice a month once established. The #1 mistake is overwatering: this plant rots at the center if kept too wet, especially away from cool coastal conditions. After establishment, let the soil dry between waterings, and expect minimal watering needs year-round. Armeria is deciduous and will die back in winter - this is normal, not a sign of failure.
