Care Guide

Planting

Plant your nested polypody in full sun in a location that mimics its natural habitat on rocky cliffs or outcrops - think well-draining soil and good air circulation. This fern can work in containers or as a groundcover, giving you flexibility in placement around your Bay Area garden. Plant in spring for best establishment before summer arrives.

After Planting

Water moderately during the growing season, tapering back as the plant establishes itself. Since this fern naturally grows on rocky terrain and is sometimes epiphytic (living on other plants), avoid overwatering and ensure excellent drainage - soggy soil is your biggest enemy with this species. Once established, it should need little intervention beyond occasional checks to make sure drainage remains good.
