Care Guide

Planting

Plant Chatterbox in spring in a location with part shade to full sun. This native orchid thrives in consistently moist soil and can handle fast, medium, or slow drainage - it's even tolerant of sand and clay - so focus on the moisture requirement rather than worrying about perfect soil composition. Choose a spot that mimics its natural habitat near streams or wet areas; if you don't have naturally boggy ground, plan to keep it reliably watered throughout the growing season.

After Planting

Water consistently to keep the soil moist through summer; this is non-negotiable for Chatterbox since it evolved in wet habitats. The plant is deciduous and cold-hardy to -10°F, so expect it to die back in winter and regrow in spring - this is normal, not a sign you've killed it. The #1 mistake is underwatering: treat this like a plant that wants bog conditions, not a drought-tolerant native, and you'll have flowers from March through August.
