Care Guide

Planting

Plant Meadow Larkspur in full sun, where it will thrive in the Bay Area's native conditions. Space plants about 12 inches apart to accommodate their mature height of 1 to 1.5 feet. Fall is the ideal planting season for this California wildflower, allowing it to establish roots through the winter rains.

After Planting

Water regularly during your plant's first growing season to help it establish, then reduce watering as it matures - this is a drought-tolerant native once settled. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms, and expect the plant to go dormant as temperatures rise in late spring or early summer. The biggest mistake is overwatering in summer or planting in shade; stick to full sun and let the plant dry out naturally during the warmer months.
