Care Guide

Planting

Plant your Argentinian Biddy-biddy in full sun to part shade in a spot with excellent drainage - this plant thrives in the open, rocky slopes and grassy places of coastal California, so think lean and well-draining soil. Plant in fall or early spring to give it time to establish before summer heat. Space plants to allow air circulation, and avoid heavy clay or consistently moist soil.

After Planting

Water weekly during your first summer to help establish the root system, then taper off as the plant matures - by year two, this very-low-water native should need little supplemental water beyond occasional rainfall. The biggest mistake Bay Area gardeners make is overwatering out of habit; this plant evolved for dry coastal conditions, so resist the urge to keep it moist. Minimal pruning should be needed once established.
