Care Guide

Planting

Plant whispering bells in full sun where drainage is excellent and soil is lean - this is a chaparral wildflower that thrives in dry conditions. Space plants about 1–2 feet apart to accommodate their spreading basal rosette of lobed leaves. Plant in fall or early winter to take advantage of California's rainy season for establishment, mimicking the plant's natural grassland habitat.

After Planting

Water very sparingly once established; whispering bells evolved in fire-prone, drought-adapted chaparral and actually prefers dry conditions, so overwatering is the most common mistake. This is an annual plant, so expect it to complete its lifecycle in one season - enjoy the delicate yellow or pink bell-shaped flowers that dry into papery, rustling forms. No pruning is necessary; simply let the plant go through its natural cycle from basal rosette to bloom to seed dispersal.
