Care Guide
Planting
Plant Sandhill sage in full sun with fast-draining soil - ideally sandy soil, which this coastal native prefers. Space plants about 2 feet apart, as they'll form clumps roughly 2 feet tall. Plant in fall or winter to establish before the dry season, and avoid areas where water pools, as poor drainage will quickly kill this plant.
After Planting
Water weekly for the first summer to establish, then cut back to no more than twice monthly once established. The biggest mistake is overwatering; this plant thrives on neglect once it takes root, so err on the side of dry rather than moist. Pruning isn't mentioned in the care data, and the plant is evergreen, so you can enjoy its silvery foliage and yellowish spring blooms year-round with minimal fuss.
